The Dieptetuin, or sunken garden, state monument and one of the jewels of Zeist, located in the suburb of Valkenbosch, is open to visitors every Sunday afternoon from 1 April through 1 November.
This garden, which takes up 0.45 hectares of Valkenbosch, is a superb example of a sunken garden. It was constructed in 1909 in the so-called formal English style, by garden architect C. Smitskamp from Zeist. The client was G.F. van Tets van Goidschalxoord, esquire, owner of the then Villa ’t Valckenbosch.
