In the early days of the German invasion in 1940, the city was completely destroyed. Although diligently reconstructed immediately afterwards, it came under fire again during the liberation. The post-war city centre is one of the 30 reconstruction zones of national importance. Find traces of the battle for the southern end of the Grebbe Line and visit the Grebbeberg War Cemetery.
